Elena's Sweet First Birthday Cake Smash

Sweet Elena came in to celebrate her first birthday and the whole family got in on the fun with photos of Elena with her sister and then ending with a delicious cake. In fact, Elena even used the sweet shoppe background and it was a perfect pairing for her, the beautiful drip icing on the cake, and then the two sisters sharing cake bites at the end.

We started out with a sweet but simple white background and the two girls for some nice photos beforehand. Elena took a little time to warm up to the studio and the lights, but her sister was a big help and did a wonderful job sitting and holding her or trying to give her a teddy bear. We were able to capture several precious moments of the girls, and Elena by herself, in front of the carriage prop and then in a basket with flowers.

Then we switched over to the sweet shoppe donut background for Elena’s smash cake portion of our session. The cake was a perfect match for the scene and Elena looked adorable in her fluffy pink tutu. She wasn’t quite sure what to do with the cake and always needed one of the paper donuts in her hand, and she actually started out by standing next to her cake trying to tap it on top to figure out what to do.

After a few bites she decided she liked it, but preferred to be fed. Good thing big sister was there! Her special sister sat next to the cake and helped feed her baby sibling small bites, while enjoying eating the cake herself, of course. It made for some magical photos of the two sisters together and at the end they even held hands while standing beside the cake as we sang “happy birthday”.
