Gemma's ONEder Woman First Birthday
I can’t believe that Gemma is a celebrating her first birthday! I’ve gotten to know this sweet family over the years and have always enjoyed getting to see their daughters for their special birthday photos. Mom had an epic idea to celebrate all that Gemma has been though this year, so we created a unique scene just for her to show off just how WONDERFUL she is.
Gemma has a very rare gene mutation and has been through so much since birth. At first we were unsure if we’d be doing the photos in the hospital or my studio as Gemma spent a whopping 75 days in the hospital this summer! Thank goodness for all those amazing health care professionals to help this sweet girl and get her back home to her family. Gemma was able to come to the studio where we planned a special Wonder Woman theme just for her.
I really wanted to show just how special Gemma is and create something that met her where she’s currently at with things on the ground and her being comfortable. Her mom had great ideas on outfits and I got a new city skyline background so we could really make Gemma fly! Plus we added in some perfect props like the lasso of truth and shield.
We got a few of Gemma awake to capture her eyes, but she soon tuckered out so we switched over to the main setting for her epic superhero photos. We laid out the skyline and put Gemma on top and then went to work/play!
Her mom also asked that we include the oxygen tank as that’s so their real life right now. We had such fun changing Gemma’s outfits and tutus, headbands and props. Her mom also had a little cake and we were able to make Gemma lasso it from the sky!
It truly was such a special session and I want to say a huge happy birthday to Gemma, a real Wonder Woman, and her family and support network as they are pretty SUPER too!
