Emmie's First Birthday Sneak Peek

Emmie and her family came in this weekend to celebrate her big first birthday with a butterfly themed session and a fabulous cake smash. Emmie and her brother were just adorable, and her brother especially made me chuckle with his firm desire to not smile. I got a few semi-grins for their sibling photo by pulling out some tickles and bubbles and at least snagged a close “not-smiling smirk”. He was also my buddy during the session with arranging the butterflies and cleaning things before the cake smash.

Emmie really enjoyed the white curved bench, and put butterflies on it and wanted to straddle it versus sitting facing forward. She loved climbing on it herself and looked exceptionally pleased with herself for accomplishing such a big feat. But her by far favorite part of the entire photo session was her cake smash.

It’s funny how I can always tell which kids have already had cake or something similar for their cake smashes. Both are adorable in their own ways as they perfectly match the kid, and I love capturing that no matter how the baby reacts. Miss Emmie, though, is only the second kid I’ve photographed who full on put their face in the cake to get a really big bite. She grabbed it with both hands and just went to town! I loved it and we were all laughing so hard at how seriously she took this “cake eating business”.
