Snap & Chat Workshop

Snap&ChatGraphic

Hello lovely JLP family! I have some exciting news about a new offering. I have spoken with so many clients during sessions, whether you have a newborn or older kids growing up way too fast, about advice or tips for you to take better pictures of your own children. Professional photos are an amazing way to preserve memories, but those small, everyday memories of daily life in your home with your children are what you will remember forever.

So if you want to learn how to take better photos of your kids, get out of AUTO and into MANUAL mode, READ ON about the new "Snap & Chat Workshop!"

Years ago when my first child was born, I wanted to capture every little smile, tiny baby movement, and snuggly pajama bedtime. I took thousands of photos and realized I wanted to know more, particularly how to take truly amazing photos of my daughter. I had a nice camera, but I wasn't using it in a way that allowed me to capitalize on it's capabilities. My angles were off, I wasn't focusing on her face correctly, and didn't know anything about exposure let alone the dreaded Manual Mode.

I bought book after book, read blogs, read my camera manual, and set up little photo shots in my home to practice. I attending a few workshops, one in particular by a photographer who was specifically teaching parents how to take better photos of their kids by explaining the basics of Manual Mode. I also did a true photo walk with a professional documentary photographer at the Denver Zoo to learn more about storytelling and to how to get in a certain mindset about capturing memories.

I was hooked. I have continued to read, study, and seek new ways to educate myself about photography and try new avenues. And I love, if for no other reason, to be able to capture these precious moments of my kids. While journaling and baby books seem to get completed WAY after they are supposed to, my photos are at least a kind of trail through our years as a family and they remind me of those special quirks or baby bellies when I see them displayed around my house. And it's even more heartwarming when my oldest, that grown up baby from the picture above, wants to pull out the family photo books I've made and have me tell her the stories behind the pictures.

Here is another comparison, a "before and after" of sorts. I have taken a photo like this of every one of my kids. These are some of my favorite photos of all time before they learned to crawl and walk. I plan to make a wall gallery of them after we…

Here is another comparison, a "before and after" of sorts. I have taken a photo like this of every one of my kids. These are some of my favorite photos of all time before they learned to crawl and walk. I plan to make a wall gallery of them after we have our last little one in May. I have learned so much about light, shadow, and editing since my daughter's (top photo) was taken. I even entered the bottom photo in an image competition this year! At least the younger kids will have awesome baby pictures even if their baby journals aren't as complete as the first kids.

Ready for Workshop Details?

Snap & Chat will teach photography basics on how to better use your DSLR camera and give a gift that all those books, workshops, and photographer mentors have given me. Preserve those special memories for YOUR family or even feed that growing desire to take your hobby to a new level.

At the workshop we will cover different photography fundamentals like:

  • The exposure triangle
  • How to use those three elements to shoot in MANUAL mode
  • Tips for getting better indoor and outdoor photos
  • Lens choice and editing software

Cost of the workshop includes our time together, take home materials, snacks, and practice time at the end! And the best part...

I'm setting up a private Facebook group for attendees where you can continue to network and learn from one another and ask me questions. This is where you can take photos, upload them and ask for critique, or just show how far you've come since you took the workshop.
