Sweet Maya was in the studio this week celebrating her first birthday. Her grandma brought her in and requested all things butterfly for a very special reason to honor her late son, and we sure added butterflies in all ways possible to bring him into such a special session for his daughter.

It was shared with me that Maya’s dad had unexpectedly passed away not that long ago and so Maya’s grandma wanted her son to be there in spirit with a butterfly theme. I know many friends who associate loved ones past with butterflies and it was an honor to bring that to life for this family.

Maya was a little camera shy at first but was still oh so cute in her pink tulle dress. We captured some beautiful photos of her with the light up ONE letters and in a few different chairs. Then she did the most amazing thing and shocked us both by standing all by herself unassisted in the middle of the set! If that wasn’t a sign her daddy was there I don’t know what was!

Maya also wasn’t sure about the sweet icing on the cake but she did give her butterfly decorations a try. In the end, she much preferred to crawl around and play with the gold butterflies on the ground or the pink balloons. She also stood unassisted 2 more times! It was so incredible and I’m so glad we captured it all on camera - not long now before true first steps.

It was a true joy to be part of these incredibly special photos and I wish Maya the happiest birthday filled with family and butterflies!
